How can successful retail concepts introduced at Apple and Target involve citizens in generating solutions to public problems? What role do imagination and innovation play in public policy? Find out at the Citizens League's Civic Celebration.
At the Oct. 25 Civic Celebration, we will be joined by Ron Johnson, now CEO of jcpenney and the man responsible for some of the most significant retail concepts in a generation. He is credited with giving Target its “cool cachet” through partnerships with designers, and he pioneered the concept of the Apple Stores and their Genius Bars.
Just as the Apple Store concept focused on the customer experience, policy design should focus on the citizen experience. Ron will share lessons from his own retail successes and from his father, Verne Johnson (former executive director and board president of the Citizens League), and describe how those lessons tie into the Citizens League’s belief that all individuals and organizations must be involved in innovating and generating new policy solutions to today’s challenges.
We will also be honoring Verne Johnson for his commitment to the Citizens League and to the state of Minnesota.
We would also like to thank our corporate and individual sponsors for making this celebration possible:
Goff Public, Gray Plant Mooty, Wellington Management, Claudia Dengler, Ward Einess, Kris & Rob Johnson, Matt Lewis, Tom & Arlene Swain, John Taylor.
CenterPoint Energy, Ecumen, Eugene J. McCarthy Center for Public Policy & Civic Engagement at Saint John's University, Minnesota Public Radio, Tom & Eleanor Crosby, Bill & Pat Kelly, Ronna Linroth, Jeff Peterson & Jill Catherwood, Thomas Pettus & Cecily Hines.
